With over 40 years of experience in the legal field, Ashby is a seasoned attorney known for his exceptional trial skills and extensive background in defending healthcare professionals. Throughout his distinguished career, Ashby has served as lead counsel in more than 300 cases, including over 100 jury trials, many of which resulted in favorable verdicts for his clients. His remarkable ability to navigate complex legal matters has made him a trusted advocate for doctors and healthcare professionals across a wide range of specialties.
A significant portion of Ashby’s practice is devoted to defending healthcare providers in cases of medical malpractice and medical board matters. He has represented clients in various medical fields, including obstetrics and gynecology, emergency medicine, orthopedics, internal medicine, pediatrics, neurosurgery, family practice, ophthalmology, general surgery, urology, cardiology, and anesthesiology, among others. Ashby’s deep understanding of medicine, combined with his legal expertise, enables him to craft tailored defense strategies that have resulted in numerous dismissals and defense verdicts.
In addition to his healthcare defense practice, Ashby is an accomplished attorney in numerous areas of law. He has gone toe to toe with major corporations, such as Honda, in high-stakes product liability cases and has fought for justice against insurance companies in personal injury matters. His expertise in securing favorable outcomes in wrongful death and serious injury cases—many of which involve settlement demands in the seven-figure range—has earned him a reputation as a tireless advocate for his clients. Whether through dismissals, defense verdicts, or sizeable monetary settlements, Ashby has proven himself a formidable force both inside and outside of the courtroom.
Ashby’s wealth of experience and dedication to his clients are reflected in his consistent track record of success, even in the most complex and high-pressure cases. His deep commitment to justice, meticulous preparation, and ability to achieve favorable results in both high-profile and personal matters make him a trusted and respected figure in the legal community.
Ashby graduated from Furman University and was commissioned in the Army as an Infantry officer. After law school at the University of South Carolina, Ashby served on active duty in the Army JAG Corps and continued in the Reserves, retiring as a Lt. Col. He was in solo private practice in Augusta, Georgia after leaving active duty, then moved to Greenville. He served in the Thirteenth Circuit Solicitor’s office as a career criminal prosecutor and was later deputy solicitor. He entered private practice at Love, Thornton, Arnold and Thomason, defending medical malpractice cases. He later became a partner with Donnan, Morton and Davis, and started the firm of Davis and Snyder.
Ashby is married to his wife, Lynne has three married children and twelve perfect grandchildren. Ashby enjoys spending time with family, boating, yard work, exercising, reading historical novels, and playing golf whenever he can, which is unfortunately not very often. Beyond his family and his faith, his passion is fighting for his clients.
