Ashby Davis is the managing partner and a co-founder of Davis & Snyder, PA. His personal injury practice focuses on automobile accidents, such as car, truck, and motorcycle accidents, products liability, and premises liability litigation. Additionally, Ashby has significant medical malpractice defense experience representing doctors, nurses, hospitals, and private practice groups both in lawsuits and medical board matters.
Ashby has practiced law for over 50 years, serving as lead counsel in over 300 cases and having tried over 100 state and federal jury trials to completion, achieving favorable verdicts in a significant majority of his trials. In addition to his courtroom success, Ashby has obtained exceptional settlements in many more cases. Many of Ashby’s clients have repeatedly sought his counsel and representation over the course of decades.
In his personal injury practice, Ashby has fought hard for justice for his injured clients against negligent individuals, manufacturers, property owners, and their insurers and he has gone toe to toe with major corporations, such as Honda, in high-stakes products liability cases. He has frequently dealt with cases of catastrophic injury and wrongful death, many of which involving seven-figure settlement demands and settlements. His background in medical malpractice defense allows Ashby to deeply understand the significance of injuries suffered and how insurance companies will evaluate cases.
Pertaining to his medical malpractice defense work, Ashby has spent a majority of his career defending healthcare professionals and has become one of the most respected attorneys in South Carolina. He has represented clients in various medical fields, including obstetrics and gynecology, emergency medicine, orthopedics, internal medicine, pediatrics, neurosurgery, family practice, ophthalmology, general surgery, urology, cardiology, and anesthesiology, among others. Ashby’s deep understanding of medicine, combined with his legal expertise, enables him to craft tailored defense strategies that have resulted in numerous dismissals and defense verdicts for his healthcare clients.
Whether fighting for those injured as a result of negligence or on behalf of healthcare professionals defending malpractice allegations, Ashby is a trial lawyer through and through. From the moment he first meets a client, Ashby is preparing for the possibility of trial because he knows that the opposition will not show their best hand without the threat of trial. If you see him in a courtroom, he expects to win and has done everything possible to aid that outcome.
Ashby has been selected to Super Lawyers 11 times and has an AV Preeminent Peer Rating with Martindale-Hubbell, which is reserved for an elite group of attorneys who have been rated by their peers as having “very high ethical standards” and is the highest possible rating among attorney peers and judges. Ashby is also a member of the South Carolina, Georgia, and Greenville County Bar Associations.
Ashby grew up all over as an Army brat before he attended and graduated from Furman University. Afterward, he was commissioned in the Army as an Infantry officer before going on to attend law school at the University of South Carolina. Ashby served on active duty in the Army JAG Corps and continued in the Reserves, retiring as a Lt. Col. After leaving active duty, he was in solo private practice in Augusta, Georgia before moving to Greenville. He served in the Thirteenth Circuit Solicitor’s office as a career criminal prosecutor and was later deputy solicitor. Later, Ashby again entered private practice at Love, Thornton, Arnold and Thomason, defending medical malpractice cases. He later became a partner with Donnan, Morton and Davis, before founding the firm of Davis and Snyder.
Ashby resides in Greenville with his amazing wife Lynne, to which he has been married for 50 years. Together, they have three married children and thirteen perfect grandchildren. Ashby enjoys spending time with family, boating, yard work, exercising, reading historical novels, and playing golf whenever he can, which is unfortunately not very often. Beyond his family and his faith, his passion is fighting for his clients.
